Ever since I was a child, I’ve created stories, whether in my head, or writing in my journal, but the beginning of my journey as a writer took shape nearly fifteen years ago when I realized I had a story to be told. I had spent years using denial to resist accepting the reality of my child’s disability. I was aware not every mother had the same attitudes or reactions that I had. I wanted to connect with fellow parents who struggled to raise a child like mine yet there weren’t any guidebooks or resources. My book will illuminate truths about the human condition that speaks to all parents. Parents of children with disabilities face many challenges, among them are guilt, isolation, and grief. My story focuses on those aspects and the process of acceptance. Often the most beneficial support and information parents receive is from other parents of children with special needs.
